Is wing foiling easy?

Certainly. Wing foiling is easy, fun and safe. But to really have fun, and right away, you need to free yourself from some preconceptions, and maybe even from some individual who wanders around the beaches, in flip flops, who always knows more than you: the professor in flip flops, the one who tells you that no, the board must be absolutely stiff, it must be short with a few liters that you learn so quickly, look how slow the one with the large foil, go with the small one, you struggle at the beginning but then ahh you know how you go. Come on, you understand, those who after 30 years of windsurfing do not even dream of a power jibe but have the top slalom/wave and freestyle boards and rage on the beach and, even worse, on social media advising unsuspecting beginners on what is best for them . Which happens to be a used board/wing/foil they have.
This is meant to be a guide for all those who want to experience the new emotions that a sport like wing foiling can offer. The potential of this sport is infinite, fun is guaranteed, but like all things it must be tackled step by step. For some, DIY is fine. Those like us who started practicing wingfoil did it self-taught, there was no school or equipped center in 2019/20, there were no instructors. In just 4 years the wingfoil has made great strides and now even those who have never practiced water sports have the opportunity to learn, the same possibility that a kiter, a windsurfer or a surfer have. Because when the foil lifts you up, we're all the same!

The choice of the first board from Wingfoil.

Do you really want to learn to wingfoil quickly, effectively, efficiently and have fun? If the answer is yes, then choose a large board! Big is not for losers, a big board will allow you to stand up, float, and concentrate on the movements to be done, on pumping, on managing the wing. A large board will help you in any sea condition, from flat to slightly rough. A large board will help you in the first gybes, in the first tacks, and you can also jump. A large board will be your companion for at least an entire season! And by the end of that season you'll be so good that you'll even recommend a big board to your best friend.
Also, choose it inflatable. The inflatable wing board has an infinitely more accessible price than a rigid one, maintaining identical performance unless you want to do wing foil competitions. And your knees will thank you!
You can also deflate it, store it in the trolley together with the foil and wing and put it in the trunk of your car, or take it with you on a scooter or by public transport. A priceless satisfaction!

But how big should the wing board be?

If you are a windsurfer, don't compare your windsurf board to a wing foil board. The comparison is totally out of place because:

  1. You do not have a foothold and balance when floating as a windsurf sail can be. With the wing you are totally free, a bit like with the Sup. The wing certainly helps you, but you need volume, lots of volume.
  2. The wing board is shorter than the windsurf one, and therefore you will have to get used to new balances.
  3. Don't take too much into consideration the indications of some years ago on the choice of volumes, since they were made following indications given by highly trained athletes and surf, surf foil, or windsurf foil professionals.

If you practice kitesurfing, absolutely do not compare wingfoil to kitesurfing or kite foiling, even if you have been doing it for twenty years! This because:

  1. You must first learn to float on a board, which you may have only tried with the Sup.
  2. You have to learn to handle the wing, to keep it in the correct position.

Have you never practiced windsurfing or kitesurfing? Don't worry, you're in luck, as today, with the material specially developed for beginners, starting from scratch and with a few hours of lessons at a good wingfoil center you can experience the first exciting flights with the wing foil, without stress and in total safety .
