We had to wait almost 5 months, it was hard, very hard. But today it's official. Vincenzo Manobianco has written another page in the history of Reptile and world Stand Up Paddle. After having won, in addition to various Italian titles, a prestigious 3rd place at the World Championships in Thailand in 2023, our team rider from Bari wrote his name in the Guinness Book of Records as "The Most 360° rotation on a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) in one minute is 20, achieved by Vincenzo Manobianco (Italy) in Bari, Italy, on 3 September 2023.”
Well yes, Vincenzo Manobianco performed 20 rotations on himself in one minute, on the Reptile I-Rider 9'0'' x 31'' Stand Up Paddle board. The only one in the world to have succeeded. Let's ask to Vincenzo some questions!

Vincenzo, first of all congratulations for an incredible year which saw you protagonist in multiple championships, and obviously, for having entered the history of World Records. Tell us briefly about your sporting career and how you came up with the idea of organizing this World Record.

Thank you for supporting me in this challenge.
My origins date back to 2002 when at the age of 12 I began my sea adventure with a canoe. The desire grew and with the competitive spirit and the races I began to understand what sacrifice, passion and team meant. I won the national team and 3 Italian titles. Then with the discovery of SUP everything became even more beautiful: the sea that bathes our city makes it easier to practice this discipline despite the canoe.
Being able to go out to sea in strong winds and surf was a nice upgrade.
Reaching a high number of 360 is a rather common test in various activities, needless to say, it also exists in canoeing. I wanted to prepare for the record because the turn is a spectacular and peculiar aspect of our discipline. And then I felt that with the right preparation I could do it.

How was the transition from canoeing to SUP?

The transition was very natural, almost spontaneous, I brought my passion and my knowledge back to the table, sharing it with friends and students. As if to confirm my choice and the proximity of these water sports, I noticed the interest of Federcanoa and therefore ICF who have been able to organize notable events well in recent years.

What was your preparation to face this challenge? Nutrition, physical activity and training in water, reveal some secrets to us!

In addition to the water tests, I prepared with various mobility exercises, with circuits in the gym with natural loads or with light weights and balance tests, specifically, with various exercises on the balance board. As for nutrition, let me start by saying that I like to eat! so as always I ate continuously as soon as I had a break (even for a few minutes) I was there to munch on anything or hydrate. It is also true that I find it right to eat several times a day as long as there are some rules: so when I knew I had a heavy workout or a test or before the official attempt I tried to avoid sweets, not to mix different proteins and to give it 2 hours /2h30' for digestion before starting physical activity.

You performed your record in a swimming pool, but is it possible to obtain the same result in a lake or the sea?

Yes, it is possible in any freshwater or saltwater basin. Even preparing for rough seas allowed me to feel more stable in flat water conditions (which I obviously recommend for the official test).
In fact, I trained both at sea and in the pool: at the seaside at the Maestrale club, at the end of the children's lessons, someone would stay to help me with the stopwatch, out of curiosity or to cheer: they were fantastic!
Or in the swimming pool at the Bari Water Park when I had a couple of free hours in the afternoon and I was with my son Francesco, we alternated games with technical turning tests.

Stand Up Paddle, a sport, a lifestyle, wellbeing, fitness, relaxation. Who would you recommend practicing Stand Up Paddling and why?

I recommend this sport to anyone, adults and children. In the first known case, already at the first lesson at sea, the amazement of the older ones (who perhaps know our seafront well) in finding themselves walking with a paddle, gives a new perspective and in the open sea gives a great sense of freedom.
In the second case, I could talk about my start with the sea: as a child it helped me in approaching my peers and at school by improving organization and concentration, I learned that if I wanted to achieve something I had to work hard. Resources that have also served me in a work environment other than sports, as well as the ability to choose and divide tasks; to focus on concrete, not too long-term goals, achieve them and then focus on the next ones.

How about we launch a challenge to the world of Stand Up Paddlers: SPIN LIKE VIN!

Obviously yes! As said before, I have always wanted to convey my experience: it is a pleasure to be able to share my passion, otherwise what would be the point of sport?
