Description

The Bora Wing V2 2023 has been completely redesigned to increase all the features necessary to make this wing resistant, performing and neutral in multiple disciplines, from wave to freestyle, passing through freeride. Stiffness, reliability, performance and simplicity are the four characteristics that we have highlighted during the development of this wonderful and innovative Wing.

Design evolution

The most evident evolution is the dynamism and the starting point, thanks to a greater tension of the sail in the leading-edge area and to a structure that is 50% more rigid than the previous model. All amplified by the two rigid handles sewn and screwed to the strut.
The new segmentation of the Leading Edge, with double material in the central area, makes the wing Bora V2 much more rigid and stable, allowing total control in the air during jumps and unparalleled performance in the pumping phase. Giving rigidity in the crossing between Strut and Leading Edge was the key to obtaining an extremely controllable wing in all wind conditions, allowing you to accelerate and jump even higher.
However, we have not neglected the comfort and the "soft feeling" that characterized the previous model. To do this, we harmonized the diameters of the tubes and the segmentation of the Leading edge, creating the Active Tips. The Active Tips are the extremities of the Leading edge, longer and thinner, which give "breath" to the wing. With an active angle, they keep the wing performing in all wind conditions, discharging the excess and releasing the rider's arms from tension. allowing him to stay in the water for many hours.
The shape of the Leading Edge has been optimized to cut through the air and fly steadily. It will feel like you are holding a blade. Friction has been reduced by working obsessively on the diameters of the various segments that make up the leading edge, scientifically reducing them from the center to the tips. We have also maintained an optimal wingspan even for the beginner, who will be able to control the wing in a simple and intuitive way without losing balance or getting tired.
The Strut has been completely redesigned in every detail. Its new S shape allows an optimal position of the arms and shoulders in gait and during the ascent and descent phase from the jumps, helping the rear hand to close the wing optimally and the front hand to control it. Furthermore, its particular shape makes the structure even more rigid.

The three long handles cover 70% of the strut and are perfect for grab the wing even "one handed" perfectly balanced.

Feeling of wing Bora V2

In Wave Riding conditions, the wing Bora V2 remains neutral and stable, floating behind you without unbalancing. Thanks to its tension in the front of the wing, the wing Bora V2 never pushes down, leaving you alone with the thought of surfing your wave.
In freestyle and jumps, the reinforced structure of the central part of the Leading Edge keeps the profile stable, allowing much higher and longer jumps. The thin Tips and the segmentation of the Leading-Edge help to have much faster and more controlled rotations. The three handles are perfect for freestylers but also for beginners, as they can grab the wing in any position.

Available in 4 sizes, 3.0 / 4.2 / 5.0 / 6.0, a perfect quiver suitable for any situation.

SHAPE AND TECHNICAL DETAILS

For the new Wing Bora V2 we worked keeping four important factors in mind:

1-Stiffness

To increase the stiffness of the very light wing Bora V2, without affecting the classic Bora light feeling, we have completely redesigned the Leading Edge and the strut.
The Leading-Edge segmentation is now much more harmonious. In the central part, where it crosses the Strut, the segments have a double layer of Dacron DP176ll, a larger diameter and are connected to the strut by reinforcing tapes. In this connection area we have also changed the sewing technique, using the flat seam, which is much more resistant to tearing.

The result of these measures is an unparalleled stability of the structure starting from the center. The diameter of the Leading-Edge tubes then gradually decreases until reaching the Tips. In this way the wing Bora V2 results very stiff, but at the same time it releases the excess wind in a gradual way without deforming in the center. In addition to these features, we have the innovative Active Tips. The Active Tips are the extremities of the Leading edge, longer and thinner, which give "breath" to the wing.
With an active angle, they keep the wing performing in all wind conditions, discharging the excess, releasing the rider's arms from tension and allowing you to stay in the water for many hours, always in total control.

We have also introduced the innovative "S" Strut.

Wings with a straight strut undergo a lot of deformation in the points where they are pulled by the handles. Deformation means loss of performance and stability. To eliminate this problem, we have designed our Strut with curves opposite to the traction that occurs during the flight. The first part of the Strut is firmly connected to the Leading Edge with new reinforcement seams and webbing. The angle of attack is designed to dissipate the enormous tension that is created at that point during jumps, landings and pump starts. The central part of the Strut has a double Dacron reinforcement and an angle that opposes the pull of the handles, eliminating any deformation. Finally, the third part of the strut, the rear one, is sewn directly onto the sail.
In this way, the control, reactivity and overall stiffness of the structure have been increased. The rear hand acts directly on the wing, controlling more effectively the distribution of power. Furthermore, the sail remains more anchored to the strut, more compact, reducing its deformations.

2-Reliability

A wing must last over time. Basically, it is a delicate product that is subject to wear and to "dangerous enemies" such as spikes (foil for example), rocks, sand and much more. In any case, we have dedicated a whole year to improving all the aspects that lead to premature wear of the wing. The seams and reinforcements are doubled.

There are hundreds of meters of seams more than the previous version, numerous reinforcement / connection tapes between strut and Leading Edge, the use of Kevlar fabric on the tips, on the strut and in the handle area. If inflated with the correct pressure, the wing Bora V2 will also withstand any excess pressure caused by a fall or twist, thanks to the quality of the materials used to manufacture it.

3-Performance

The rigid, harmonized, compact and reinforced structure clearly makes the Wing Bora V2 extremely performing and maneuverable. We took care of the sail tension by segmenting it into multiple pre-shaped and pre-assembled panels in the "belly" area, where the wing needs power but also a stable, clean and taut surface.

The wing Bora V2 is stretched like the skin of a drum from the Leading Edge up to 3/4 of the wing. The rear part has the panels assembled parallel to the trailing edge (the outgoing edge), in order to make the air exit immediate and clean.
The Active Tips then complete the excess wind release operation without destabilizing the wing. The Bora V2 is easy to steer in all wind conditions, and thanks to its tension it makes transitions into and out of the wind easy. The innovative shape of the Strut facilitates control in all directions, and the three long PVC and neoprene handles allow you to navigate with one hand only and always have a grip available during Freestyle transitions.

4-Simplicity.

The Wing Bora V2 is 100% cared for in every detail. The architecture is clean, with smooth and balanced curves. The de-power handle on the leading edge is large, Kevlar-reinforced, with soft neoprene to protect your hands. The inflation valve is located on the leading edge, covered by a protective cap. To inflate the wing Bora V2 just insert the pump and inflate, the connection tube to the strut will pass the air in both air chambers. To deflate the wing, just unscrew both valves and the air will come out very quickly. There are no hidden corners, the assembly, performed in a workmanlike manner, allows you to easily repair the wing in case of breakage

THE PRODUCTION PROCESS

The wing Bora V2 required more than a year of design and dozens of prototypes for each single size before being approved. Wing foil is evolving rapidly, it is relatively easy and the learning curve is very fast. You jump higher and higher; you go faster and faster and sometimes you fall ruinously. To resist all this, every year the wing structure undergoes continuous improvement upgrades, which make it more and more performing, resistant and easy to use. Reptile is among the pioneers of this sport, first approaching beginners, and now also competing.

After the 3D design phase, we start producing the hidden part of our wing, the Bladders. These are the air chambers that, when inflated, give rigidity to our wing. For the Wing Bora V2 we had bladders made with a special thickness of 0.09 mm, a perfect compromise between strength, reliability and lightness.
Then we move on to the phase of cutting the DP175ll Dacron panels, an operation that is performed with the cutting plotter. This operation is free from any defect, as the cutting files are passed directly from the 3D program to the plotter. The assembly of the various panels is pure art and knowhow. It takes a lot of experience, precision and up-to-date machines to sew perfect seams like those you can see on the Bora V2 wing. The Strut and Leading Edge are thus assembled, the muscles of our Bora V2. The Leading Edge and Strut give shape and stiffness to the entire structure. The Leading Edge has been designed with a larger diameter in the center, which gets smaller and smaller as it approaches the tip. This feature makes the Bora V2 very stiff and stable, but at the same time simple and light to handle in all wind conditions.

Once the skeleton and structure are completed, they are finally joined to the sail. Here, too, the 3D engineering work was high. The sail, the Canopy, is made up of about 30 pre-assembled panels, which guarantee perfect tension and stability in the front part of the wing, the "power zone", and a correct release of the wind in the rear part of the wing. In addition, the smaller but numerous panels guarantee a resistance to deformation of about 5 times more than the wings with larger and fewer panels. The sail is made of a particular fabric, the Triple Ripstop Techfiber STW18, among the most rigid and resistant on the market. Three vertical threads intersect two horizontal ones, creating a mesh that, even if torn, resists tearing.

Since Wing foil is a sport that can become extreme, we have added significant reinforcements integrated into the structure to make it even more resistant and performing.
The base of all handles is Kevlar on the outside, and with double Dacron on the inside. Designed to last.

Kevlar has also been used to protect all seams on the Leading edge that can touch the ground, the tips of the Tips and the strut.
We took great care of the central area, the intersection between Strut and Leading Edge. This is the heart of the Bora V2, the area that must remain rigid and withstand the tensions of the entire structure. All bending and torsional loads are concentrated in this area. The two central segments of the Leading Edge have a double layer of Dacron. The connection with the strut has double reinforcements, flat seams and reinforcement webbing. If we could put carbon in, we would. In any case, we have built one of the most solid structures on the market.

Even the mini battens have Dacron reinforcements, as well as all the closing seams of the Leading edge and Strut. For each Bora V2 hundreds of meters of Dacron Insignia tape are used to make it resistant to everything.
From this year we introduce the "one pump" inflation system. The entire wing is inflated by acting directly on the Leading-Edge valve. Deflation, on the other hand, is very fast, as there is also a valve on the strut that will let the air out in record time. Two minutes to inflate, 10 seconds to deflate.

RAW MATERIALS

The wing Bora V2 are built in the best Kite and Wing manufacturer in the world, with the most resistant materials. Nothing is indestructible, but our wings can last even if mistreated.
Inside the Bora Wing V2 there are two air chambers, the bladders, one for the Leading Edge and another for the strut. The thickness of our bladders is 0.09 mm, a perfect combination of lightness and strength.
The structure of the Bora Wing is assembled using one of the finest German-made Dacron fabrics, Dimension Polyant's DP175ll. Stiff, strong and, importantly, repairable.
The sail is made of a particular fabric, the Triple Ripstop Techfiber STW18, among the most rigid and resistant on the market. Three vertical threads intersect two horizontal ones, creating a mesh that, even if torn, resists tearing.
All the segments that make up the Bora Wing are internally reinforced on the seams by an internal Insignia AE tape.
The handles, in addition to having a Kevlar reinforcement at the base, are fixed to the strut by means of a polyester tape that wraps the strut. In this way the tension is distributed along the whole circumference of the strut.
The ends of the three points are reinforced with Kevlar, as are all the areas and seams that can rest on the ground during the inflation and deflation phase.
The materials we use are first choice, every detail is taken care of because our Wings must be jewels on the ground and airplanes in the water.

HOW TO USE REPTILE BORA WING V2

The Bora V2 is a wing that is simple to use by beginners and extremely performing in the hands of experienced riders. Before using the Wing, make sure you have read all the information contained in the instruction booklet and made sure that the weather and sea conditions are within your reach.

1- Extend the Wing on the ground opening it completely. If inflated while still bent, the internal bladder may be damaged.

2- Make sure that the Strut valve is firmly closed. This is a valve that you will only use to let the air out.

3- Connect the pump tube (sold separately) to the leading-edge inflation valve and inflate the wing. Be careful not to inflate it beyond the indicated pressure. Don't trust gauges too much, as at these low pressures they often don't indicate pressure correctly. The pressure gauge indicator will indicate the pressure only in the descending phase of the pumping, and not when the pump is stopped. To verify correct pressure, push a finger with moderate force into the central part of the leading edge. If the Dacron doesn't crease, the pressure is correct. Close the valve. Note: there is a small tube that connects the Leading edge to the strut. The passage of air between LE and Strut takes place in this tube during the inflation phase. Make sure that the clip in the middle of the tube, covered with a neoprene sock, is open during the inflation phase. After this stage, close the clip. In this way, in the event of a perforation of one of the two air chambers, the air will not escape completely.

4- Fasten the leash to the resistant gray Marlov top (or even better to the handle of the Leading Edge) and to the wrist and have fun! The Leash is necessary to avoid losing the wing during falls.

5- To deflate the wing Bora V2, unscrew both valves. The air will come out quickly as you fold back the wing.

WING MAINTENANCE

The wing Bora V2 does not require major maintenance. If you want to make it last for a long time, just follow a few simple rules.
- Do not inflate the wing beyond the recommended pressure. Too high a pressure will not make you go faster, on the contrary. Have you ever tried to inflate the car tires to too high a pressure? wear out your tires and don't hold the road. Have you ever windsurfed with an extra stiff mast, or download the sail beyond what is allowed? the result is always the same, loss of performance. The wing has been designed to remain rigid in some places and flex in others. Don't pay too much attention to the beach chatter, otherwise, when the wing blows up, send the bill to the teachers in flip-flops' house.
- It is not necessary to rinse the wing with fresh water after each session.
- Do not hang the wing on trees or other suspended, deflated points to allow it to dry. The Strut's bladder could come down from its seat and consequently break on first inflation if it can no longer lie down properly.
- Pay attention to the pointed surfaces, absolutely enemy of our wing!
- Be careful not to let sand get inside the bladder, or between the bladder and the Dacron. The grains of sand are abrasive which could damage the wing in the long run.
-Do not leave your wing in the sun for too long when you are not using it. The high temperature increases the pressure inside the bladders and could cause it to explode.

WARRANTY

What damage does the warranty cover?

Each Reptile Sports product is subjected to rigorous quality controls during every single production phase. Each product is carefully checked to ensure that the technical characteristics comply with the specifications. Non-compliant products are NOT placed on the market but destroyed.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects and / or material defects with a duration of twenty-four months (24) from the date of purchase, in the case of sale to the direct user.
This date must be proven by a delivery document issued by the seller (e.g. receipt), in which the following appear: the delivery date, the name of the seller, the identification details of the same (type, model).
Main defects in materials and workmanship
The defects of the materials, and in particular of the carbon composites, are normally highlighted in the initial use phase. If a product is faulty (and this can happen), it breaks down after a few exits. Breakages occurred after months of use, are hardly attributable to defects in material or production, but rather to shocks or stress following poorly executed maneuvers, impact with the seabed, whirled in the waves. This does not mean that the guarantee is not recognized, but that it may be necessary for us to carry out a greater analysis of the damaged parts to understand if the nature of the break occurred due to a defect or inexperience.

FAQ

- What size of Wing to choose?

Leaving aside all the beach talk, there are three elements to consider for choosing the correct size of your wing: your weight, the intensity of the wind and your technical level.

- Hard handles or soft (semi-rigid) handles?

With the wing Bora V2 and the wing Bora V2 RH we give the possibility to choose whether to buy a wing with three soft handles (semi-rigid) or with long rigid handles.
The three soft handles almost entirely cover the strut and allow you to grab the wing in any position, navigate with one hand and perform multiple freestyle evolutions. Being soft they do not damage the board in case of impact. The wing is lighter. They are suitable for everyone, from the beginner who has to grab the wing everywhere to the freestyler who has to perform the most radical rotation.
The two long rigid handles on the other hand give the wing a further step of rigidity, control and precision in transitions. They are long, the longest on the market, and positioned with minimal space between them so that they are almost considered a boom. The feeling is incredible, a sensation of direct control of the wing and an ability to execute even more precisely the passages of the wing in the wind. The wing preferred by those who love to do long edges, by those who do slalom. Also perfect for wave and freestyle.

-Wing with windows or without windows?

For the wing Bora V2 we have chosen a windowless construction, which gives the wing a lightness and a better performance. Flying with the wing offers the rider a very broad view of what surrounds him given the position of the wing during cross and upwind flight. In the waves then the windows are not needed, as you surf with the wing in front or next to us. The general duration of the wing is also higher.

-How much to inflate the wing?

Do not inflate the wing beyond the recommended pressure. Too high a pressure will not make you go faster, on the contrary. Have you ever tried to inflate the car tires to too high a pressure? wear out your tires and don't hold the road. Have you ever windsurfed with an extra stiff mast, or screwed the sail beyond what is allowed? the result is always the same, loss of performance. The wing has been designed to remain rigid in some places and flex in others. Don't pay too much attention to the beach chatter, otherwise, when the wing blows up, send the bill to the teachers in flip flops' house.
